Uma voz poderosa, firme, uma força expressiva nas interpretações, uma trajetória singular dentro da música popular brasileira, artista respeitada nos Estados Unidos e na Europa. Assim é Margareth Menezes, a cantora baiana que breve estará lançando um novo CD, ainda em fase de escolha de repertório, mas que promete surpreender a todos.

Em toda a sua carreira Margareth Menezes trilha caminhos inusitados. Antes de ter seu talento reconhecido nacionalmente, realizou turnê acompanhando o artista norte americano David Byrne (ex-Talking Heads) em mais de 50 shows realizados em 1990. A partir daí, as turnês internacionais tornaram-se constantes. Em julho de 99 a artista volta a se apresentar em dez cidades européias, participando dos festivais mais importantes.

Margareth nasce marcada pela música. Seu pai conquistou sua mãe cantarolando melodiosos boleros no balcão de um armazém na Boa Viagem, bairro da Cidade Baixa de Salvador. Ainda criança, gostava de cantar e cresceu ouvindo a jovem guarda, cantores como Ângela Maria (mais tarde Alcione, Elis, Bethânia, Gal, Gil, Alceu) e o forró de Marinês e Sua Gente, uma herança do gosto paternal.

Cantou na escola, em coral de igreja, fez teatro, shows em barzinhos e em trios elétricos. Isso resultou numa artista multifacetada, que tanto pode emocionar fazendo um show acústico (Projeto Noites MPB), como enlouquecer a multidão no carnaval.

Nesse show que ela apresenta na Concha Acústica, Margareth traz um repertório que prima pelo resgate de pérolas da MPB, roca, reggae, baião, afoxé, samba, frevo, galope, samba reggae, e é claro, músicas inéditas de sua autoria que seguramente estarão no novo disco.

The Voice That Enchants Bahia.

A powerful, firm voice, expressive and strong in her interpretations, the Bahian singer Margareth Menezes, is a respected artist in the United States and Europe with a unique trajectory within Brazilian Popular Music (MPB). She is currently working on and soon to release a new CD, which promises to be even more popular than her previous albums.

Throughout her career, Margareth Menezes, has taken the unbeaten path. Before her talent was recognized nationally, she toured with the American musician David Byrne (ex-Talking Heads member) in more than 50 shows in 1990. From then on, the international tours were constant. In July of ’99, Margareth returned to the touring circuit playing in ten European cities and participating in the most important festivals in these cities.

Margareth was born already influenced by her father’s music since it was her father’s serenading from behind a store counter in Boa Viagem (a neighborhood in the Lower City of Salvador) that won Margareth’s mother’s heart. Still a child, she liked to sing and grew up listening to the Jovem Guarda, singers such as Ângela Maria (and later Alcione, Elis Regina, Maria Bethânia, Gal Costa, Gilberto Gil, Alceu Valença) and the forró music of Marinês e Sua Gente, a legacy of her father’s musical taste.

Margareth sang in school, the church choir, did theater, sang in little bars and on Trios Electricos. The result is that Margareth is a multifaceted artist, who can move audiences in an acoustic show and can make the crowds go crazy during Carnaval.

In this show at the Concha Acústica Amphitheater, Margareth brings a repertoire full of MBP classics, rock, reggae, baião, afoxé, samba, frevo, galope, samba-reggae and of course, her own unreleased compositions from her new album.
