“Com um projeto que respeitasse o processo de desenvolvimento das crianças e que ajudasse de uma maneira natural a desenvolver a sua educação, foi fundada em 1984, a Escola Via Magia, em Salvador. Aqui, as crianças chegam com dois anos e trabalham com educação artística, dança, música, teatro e muita poesia. Nesta escola, a arte é o melhor instrumento de educação para a infância. Todo o trabalho de organização psicomotora é feito através da arte.

Os alunos desenvolvem uma autonomia muito grande no processo de desenvolver o saber. São crianças com uma visão mais profunda e geral do mundo, porque as matérias são interdisciplinares, o que possibilita melhor compreensão do todo. Para trabalhar no desenvolvimento do processo individual de cada criança são formados grupos de 20 alunos, em média.

Na Via Magia as aulas não são padronizadas. Leitura, Escrita, Matemática, Estudos Sociais e Ciências são disciplinas que as crianças aprendem com jogos diversificados, dramatização, estórias em quadrinhos e muita música. Para trabalhar com esta sistemática é necessário um professor muito especializado, que tenha uma visão global do mundo, seja bem informado, goste de ler e escrever e tenha muito amor ao seu trabalho. Este professor prepara diariamente a sua aula e tem que lidar a cada momento com uma situação inusitada. Tem que ser muito criativo.

Diferente das escolas formais, aqui os alunos não permanecem o tempo todo na sala de aula. A escola tem espaços distintos e equipados para o desenvolvimento do projeto da criança, que também circula livremente, buscando a melhor forma de desenvolver o próprio saber.

Todo o material didático é desenvolvido na própria escola. As pesadas mochilas cheias de livros não fazem parte do dia a dia destas crianças, o que torna a vinda para a escola mais agradável. A Via Magia é a primeira escola do país onde as crianças fazem seus próprios livros. O livro é feito a partir de temas que são escolhidos com as crianças. Dentro de cada assunto são oferecidas diversas vivências. Se o assunto for História, as crianças vêem vídeo, visitam locais históricos e todos os dias registram suas experiências em textos abordando os estudos que foram feitos.

A interdisciplinaridade está presente em todos os momentos como, por exemplo, no plantio de cenouras, quando eles estudam a profundidade das covas, o número de sementes, espaçamento, onde se inserem conceitos de adição e multiplicação.

Nesta escola, subir nas árvores, brincar com argila e cuidar dos animais é recuperar o contato com a terra e com os ciclos da vida.”

Via Magia School

“With a project that respects the developmental processes of children and naturally supports the development of their education, Via Magia School was founded in 1984 in Salvador. Children begin the school at the age of two and work with arts education, dance, music, theater and a lot of poetry. At this school, art is the best instrument for the education of young children. All psychomotor skills are reinforced through art.

The students develop their individuality while assimilating knowledge. This gives the children a more profound vision of the world and because their studies are interdisciplinary, children develop a more absolute and holistic ability to comprehend. In order to work with the individual development of each child, the average classroom contain twenty students.

At Via Magia classes are not standardized. Reading, writing, mathematics, social studies and science are disciplines that the children learn through various games, dramatization, comical stories and a lot of music. To work within this system, specially trained, well-informed teachers with a global vision of the world, who enjoy reading and writing and have a great love for their work are necessary. Each teacher prepares their class daily and must still be spontaneous and able to handle any situation. Teachers must be highly creative as well.

Different from traditional schools, students at Via Magia do not spend all of their time in the classroom. The school has distinct spaces equipped for the developmental projects of children. Students can also circulate the grounds freely seeking the best way to cultivate their own knowledge.

All educational material is created within the school. Heavy backpacks full of books are not part of these children’s day to day lives, which makes coming to school more pleasant. Via Magia is the first school in Brazil where children have made their own books. The books are based on themes which are chosen by the children. Within each topic offers diverse experiences. If the subject is history, children watch videos, visit local historical sites and document their experiences daily in essays which deal with themes they are studying.

Students constantly engage in interdisciplinary experiences. When planting carrots for example, students will note the depths of the holes, the number of seeds and spacing, there by practicing concepts of addition and multiplication.

At Via Magia School, climbing trees, working with clay and taking care of animals reinforces each child’s contact with the earth and the cycles of life.”
