AGBEOKUTA

Grupo surgido em 1990 sob a liderança do paulista/baiano Cícero Antônio, o Agbeokuta tem nome com origem no Yoruba, significando “embaixo da pedra”. Retrabalhando de modo particular as diversas vertentes de música negra ocidental, ele revela ritmos desconhecidos, outros muito em voga e, principalmente, experimenta novas linguagens, sintetizadas num complexo processo criativo todos os sons que a diáspora separou. Sincrético, transgressivo, recusa a folclorização da música como objeto de mera manipulação comercial; prefere o experimento e a arte. A proposta é uma saborosa mistura de ritmos, cores e culturas, num caldeirão musical onde a simplicidade é a meta e multiplicidade é o caminho.

AGBEOKUTA

Group founded in 1990 under the guidance of the Paulista/Bahian Cícero Antônio, Agbeokuta’s name originates from Yoruba, meaning “below the stone”. Reworking the particular expression of different black western music, he reveals rare rhythms, experimenting with new languages, synthesizing in a complex creative process all of the sounds that the Diaspora separated. Synthetic, synergetic, transgressive, the group abhors the folklorization of music for commercial manipulation, preferring constant experimentation and art. The resulting work is a flavored mixture of rhythms, colors and cultures in a musical caldron where simplicity is the goal and multiplicity the path.
