LILA DOWNS

Cantora e compositora nascida em Oaxaca no México, traz em sua música uma mistura do jazz americano e da música indígena de sua terra natal. Filha de mãe índia Mixtec e pai americano, Lila cresceu entre Minneapolis, Minnesota, Tlaxiaco e Oaxaca. Sua técnica vocal passa pelas tradições da música ocidental clássica, pelo blues, gospel e por diversos estilos de canto popular e ritmos indígenas mexicanos. Suas composições retomam o gênero musical latino-americano que fazem fusão com o jazz e tem, na maioria das vezes, como tema central a migração dos índios Mixtecos que vão trabalhar nos EUA.

LILA DOWNS

Singer and composer born in Oaxaca, Mexico, her music brings a mixture of American jazz and the Indigenous music of her birth land. Daughter of a Mixtec mother and American father, Lila grew up between Minneapolis, Minnesota, Tlaxiaco and Oaxaca. Her vocal technique is influenced by classical western music, blues, gospel, as well as various styles of popular songs and Mexican Indigenous rhythms. Her compositions recover a Latin American genre of music fused with jazz, and have as their central theme the migration of Mixtec Indians who go to work in the United States.
