UAKTI

Pela lenda, UAKTI era um Ser enorme que vivia próximo à aldeia dos Tucanos, às margens do rio Negro, na Amazônia. Com seus instrumentos de criação e confecção próprias, esse conjunto brasileiro (oficina instrumental) produz – assim como o Ser da lenda – sons belíssimos, incomuns e envolventes, pelos quais os índios se encantaram. Os homens, enciumados, caçaram e mataram UAKTI. No local onde foi enterrado, nasceram três palmeiras, de cujos troncos os índios fabricam instrumentos musicais que, quando tocados, evocam os sons de UAKTI correndo livre pela floresta.
O grupo cria os seus instrumentos com os mais diversos materiais, como tubos de PVC, vidros, metais, pedras, borracha, cabaças e até mesmo água. O UAKTI é composto pelos músicos: Paulo Sérgio dos Santos, Décio de Souza Ramos, Artur Andrés Ribeiro e Marco Antônio Guimarães, diretor musical e responsável pela fabricação dos instrumentos. Os acordes mágicos deste grupo mineiro já encantaram artistas de peso como Milton Nascimento, Paul Simon, The Manhattan Transfer e o compositor Philip Glass. Recebeu alguns prêmios importantes como o “Prêmio Ministério da Cultura 96”, como o melhor Grupo de Música Instrumental Brasileira e o “Prêmio Santista”, pela inovação na Música Popular Brasileira.

UAKTI

Legend says that UAKTI was a great Being who lived near the village of the Tucanos, on the banks of the Negro river, in the Amazon. His body was full of holes which allowed the wind to pass though producing the most beautiful rare and enveloping sounds, which enchanted the Indigenous women. The men, in their envy, hunted down and killed UAKTI. At the place of his burial, three palm trees sprouted. From the trunks of these trees the Tucanos fabricated musical instruments, which evoke the sounds of UAKTI running freely through the forest.
With hand-crafted instruments and articles, the Brazilian group UAKTI, produces- just as the Being from the legend- rare and enveloping sounds. The group creates its instruments with innovative materials such as PVC tubes, glass, metal, rocks, rubber, gourds and even water. UAKTI is composed by musicians Paulo Sérgio dos Santos, Décio de Souza Ramos, Artur Andrés Ribeiro and Marco Antônio Guimarães, musical director and fabricator of instruments This group from Minas Gerais has received important prizes such as the “Ministry of Culture Prize 96“, as the best Brazilian Instrumental group and “Santista Prize”, for innovation within Popular Brazilian Music.
