WAKAY

Nascido na aldeia Kariri-Xocó, em Alagoas e criado na tribo pernambucana Funi-ô, esse jovem índio de 26 anos é uma espécie de representante das aldeias nativas do Nordeste e tem a missão de divulgar as tradições dos primeiros habitantes das terras brasileiras. Cantando em yathe (seu dialeto de origem) e em português, Wakay interpreta músicas suaves como o canto dos pássaros e fontes, como o estrondo da natureza, ritmadas com o bater dos pés e sons de maracas. Morando em Salvador desde 1996 - por ver na capital baiana uma maior afinidade com seu trabalho - Wakay tem ocupado muitos palcos da cidade.

WAKAY

Born in the village of Kariri-Xoc, in Alagoas and raised in the Pernambucan tribe Funi-ô, this twenty-six year Indigenous artist is a representative of the native villages of the Northeast and has the mission to spread the traditions of the first inhabitants of the Brazilian lands. Singing in yathe, his mother dialect and in Portuguese, Wakay interprets suave songs, of birds and fountains, as well as the roar of nature, with feet rhythms and maracas. Wakay resides in Salvador since 1996, feeling in the Bahian capital a greater affinity with his work and is currently performing throughout many of the city’s theaters.
