Zenildo Barreto - "A Cruz da Reflexão" (Bahia)    |    English version

Este engenheiro agrônomo, com especialização na Universidade de S. Antonio Abade, de Cusco (Peru), e doutorado na Academia de Ciências Agrícolas George Dimitrov, de Sofia (Bulgária), dedica sua arte à causa ecológica. Zenildo Barreto defende a idéia de que a cultura é um excelente veículo capaz de converter os sonhos dos poetas e heróis em uma realidade vital. Para ele, os negros, os brancos, os amarelos, os índios e os mulatos, unidos pela defesa do meio ambiente e dos recursos naturais, têm os meios para construir um continente independente, forte e orgulhoso de suas tradições culturais. Com a instalação "A Cruz da Reflexão", feita a partir de árvores retiradas das queimadas, Zenildo aborda o tema do sincretismo, que, segundo ele, "também é filho da natureza; natureza que renasce em cada planta e insiste em fazer nascer a alvorada em cada homem do mundo".

This agronomist engineer, with a degree from the University of S. Antonio Abade in Cusco (Peru) and a doctorate from the Academy of Agricultural Sciences George Dimitrov of Sofia (Bulgaria), dedicates his art to ecologic causes. Zenildo Barreto defends the idea that culture is an excellent medium capable of transforming the dreams of poets and heroes into a vital reality. To him, all people, black, white, yellow, indigenous and mixed, united by their defense of the enfironment and natural resources, have the means to build an independent continent, strong and proud in its cultural traditions. With the installation "A Cruz da Reflexão" (The Cross of Reflection), made from trees pulled from burning fires, Zenildo approaches the theme of synthesis, which according to him, "is also a child of nature; nature which is reborn in every plant and insists on giving birth to a new dawn in every human being in the world".
