This historian presents an introduction to rural maracatu imaginary and practices. “His work in the field of popular culture is body and soul and hand in glove with his way of making history. He studies the body in action, at parties and dancing and as a religious phenomenon. It is the structure of this very party, the rites and each of the characters, which he presents to the reader”.
